The recently passed law, known as the Work & Family Mobility Act, which takes effect on July 1, 2023, will allow Massachusetts residents who cannot provide proof of lawful presence or citizenship in this country to get a driver’s license or permit after meeting the other requirements such as passing a drivers test.

Earlier this year, the House and Senate both voted to override the Governor’s veto of the Work & Family Mobility Act, and the legislation then became Question 4 of the November election. Voters approved the question with a 53.7 percent majority.
